Gratitude & Contentment
The holidays are upon us, bringing with them the flurry of activity and shopping and the constant question of "what do you want this year?"
But what if we have no "want"? What if we are absolutely, completely content with WHAT IS at this moment? In the Yoga Sutras, Patanjali says "through contentment, you gain immeasurable joy and peace." But how?
The flip side of contentment is gratitude. Being grateful, every day, for the little gifts that life provides. The light reflecting off of water. The color of sky. The feel of a breeze on our faces. The laughter of those we love. The warmth of a fire. The beauty of music. These are gifts that come to each of us, even in our hardest times. As we see more and more the wonders of these daily gifts of life, we develop deep contentment. And as we develop deep contentment, our gratitude continues to grow.
One coin. Two sides.
Find something to be truly grateful for today. And then, do it again tomorrow. And the next. Make a habit of your gratitude. Then….and only then….will you find contentment deep in your heart.
